This is everything you need to know about our committees! What they have done, what they plan to do and everything in-between. We have several committees needing a chair; a person to lead and gather a team. Not ready for that?!…. Every committee needs worker bees. Some require as little as an afternoon or a couple hours a month. See something that sparks your interest, somewhere you can make a positive difference, or are you passionate about something not yet going on at NES? Follow the volunteer button below and let us know!
(As the school year begins, this page will be generic descriptions that will be modified as committees meet and make new goals.)
Volunteer monthly (or on call when there is a shortage of classroom volunteers) to open car doors for our students in the morning. This committee will work with the 5th Grade Safety Patrol.
The Citizenship Committee needs volunteers to assist with monthly Character Counts recognition, semi-annual clothing drives, an annual peanut butter drive, and other community collections or projects as needed.
Volunteer in the Northshore Clinic and care for sick and injured students. The Clinic is only open for the students when we have caring volunteers to staff it. Just one day (4 hours) each month is greatly appreciated.
Parent Involvement & Volunteer Coordinator
The Parent Involvement/Volunteer Coordinator works hard to ensure that all volunteers “connect” with committees that most interest them. This Committee provides all other PTA Committees with a list of volunteers who have signed up to help that committee via the Volunteer Sign-Up Sheet. This Committee also organizes and distributes Room Parent Information Packets and facilitates communication between Room Parents and various committees throughout the year, particularly for special school-wide events that require a large number of volunteers.
This Committee is also responsible for communicating with the Helping Hands Volunteers, a group of volunteers that are “on-call” or can “donate” limited hours at school when extra help is needed (Flu Mist Day, Picture Day, Extra Help in the Front office & the “Specials” Area, etc.)
The Yearbook Committee is responsible for the production of the Northshore Elementary annual yearbook. This committee needs volunteers to help with the collection of orders, taking pictures and helping with distribution in the Spring.
Photographers are needed from each classroom to help make the yearbook fabulous. Consider being a class photographer!
Organizing local events with community partners to help raise funds for our school.
Love to shop? Good at selling? Here is a fit for you! Help with ordering and selling spirit merchandise (t-shirts, hats, etc.). Works with a committee of people to set up “shop” and sell spirit wear. Includes processing all order forms, deposits and distribution of ordered merchandise.
Book Fair / Library
Two times a year (Fall & Spring-one week per time), the Library and the PTA will host a Book Fair to benefit the Library. It will be during the day and one evening each week.
Approximately 50 volunteers are needed to work 2-3 hour shifts. Volunteers will stock the shelves with Book Fair items, assist children with making selections and help take down the displays at the end of the Fair.
Volunteers are needed in the Library to help shelve books, assist students finding materials, check in/out books, filing and other clerical tasks. No experience is necessary; training is provided.
Collections & School Incentives
This Committee plans, organizes and implements several different reward programs offered to schools. Our most popular program is Box Tops for Education (BTFE). One volunteer per grade to help collect, organize and submit necessary info for our school to receive rewards/funds is needed.
This committee will be responsible for the monthly PTA newsletter. Tasks include obtaining information from each board member as well as administration, publishing newsletter, and distribution.
Contests & Reflections
Northshore Elementary has three sponsored events: Citizen Literature Contest, Safety Poster Contest, and the Reflections Cultural Arts Contest. Volunteers are needed to help with the promotion, administrative duties, etc.
This committee is responsible for family, staff, and community education. Volunteers needed to help organize and promote several events through the school year.
Grounds & Beautification
Did you know it is up to the PTA to purchase and maintain the playgrounds as well as other beautification projects around the school? Since ground beautification is a major goal for the 2017-2018 school year, there are ample opportunities to help! We will have specific one-time projects, as well as yearlong maintenance needs. We will also have several volunteer days to help plant, weed, and maintain ongoing projects.
Hospitality & Staff Appreciation
Volunteers are needed to help set up and assist at luncheons and events. This committee also needs an unlimited number of volunteers who enjoy cooking and baking. Volunteering can be once or on-going. It can be as simple as sending an item to school with your student, bringing a snack for the teachers to enjoy, or cooking for one of the meals.
